Alternate Description
-
I moved to Los Angeles from Finland in 1989 with my boyfriend. We had found an apartment in West Hollywood which is a gay neighborhood. I had no idea of its nature but soon began to sense that something wasn’t right.
Up till 1989 I had lived a “normal” straight white female life as a part of majority. In West Hollywood I suddenly became a part of minority. Even if I was never discriminated I did sense, and strongly so, what it is to be a silent outsider, someone who’s accepted, but deep down finally rejected and somehow doomed.
